Notably, the anticorrosion mechanism by air pockets was explained by the comparison of two superhydrophobic surfaces prepared with the same low-surface-energy chemicals. Because of the special surface structure, the mechanical robustness and corrosion resistance of the STA-PDMS-ZnO sample were improved. The outstanding superhydrophobicity on the as-prepared surface was greatly related to the construction of stepwise multilayered micro- and nanostructure within the superhydrophobic surface. The aluminum matrix superhydrophobic surface was able to display excellent repellency to water with a WCA of 152° and a WSA of 2°. The surface morphology, chemical composition, and water repellency were determined with SEM, CLSM, EDS, FT-IR, TG, and contact-angle measurements, respectively. We develop a fluorine-free preparation of the superhydrophobic surface on an aluminum alloy with anticorrosion performance and mechanical robustness. The superhydrophobic coating demonstrated enhanced anti-corrosion properties against NaCl aqueous solution in relation to the copper substrate as indicated from both EIS and potentiodynamic polarization experiments. The corrosion protection mechanism was elucidated by the proposed equivalent circuits, indicating that the superhydrophobic silver coating acted as an effective barrier, separating the Cu substrate from the corrosive solution. The corrosion behavior of the produced hydrophobic copper under optimal conditions was evaluated by means of potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using a 3.5% NaCl solution. Such silver-coated copper samples exhibited a sufficiently stable coating with superhydrophobicity, having a maximum water contact angle of 152°, along with an oleophilic nature.

A dual morphology was revealed, consisting of broad regions with feather-like structured morphologies and some areas with spherical morphologies. A confocal microscope was used to record the 3D topography and assess the film roughness of the surface. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to examine the silver film structure. An adherent silver coating was achieved under optimal conditions. The whole process has the advantage of being time-saving low cost and environment-friendly. Ī simple and versatile chemical solution deposition process is reported to manipulate the wettability properties of copper sheets. Several chemical etching and hydrothermal methods, electrodeposition techniques and solution (wet) chemical reaction were also employed such as potentiostatic electrolysis in an ethanolic solution of tetradecanoic acid, oxidation in alkaline solutions, etching in ammonia solution combined with hydrothermal creation of copper oxide film, hydrothermal creation of superhydrophobic Cu 2 S film, electrolysis in capsaicin ethanolic solution, electrodeposition in myristic acid solution, chemical etching in an ammonia solution and consequent calcination in air, fabrication of multiscale textured surfaces on copper via electrodeposition in CuSO 4 and H 2 SO 4, an electrochemical modification process in an ethanolic stearic acid solution and electrodeposition to develop multifunctional zinc/polydopamine composite hydrophobic coatings.

Preparation of superhydrophobic copper surfaces has been reported in numerous papers by utilizing several techniques such as nanotextured surfaces by using laser beam machining and nanocoatings by employing hydrothermal methods to fabricate CuO film on copper substrate.
